About

You might say that I have a double-sided personality. I struggle to be happy and I’m often overwhelmed by the small, mundane problems of life. That’s where the title “Feet on the Ground” comes from. Yet I’m also a dreamer. I believe for God to do big things in my life because I know that He loves me deeply and He will see me through all of my struggles. Hence my subtitle!

So this blog is mainly about the space in between. Where I strive to be happy without becoming manic and where I can approach those mundane, real life situations without being overwhelmed by trying to fix these problems. Writing helps me work through the issues bouncing around in my head. If I can figure out even one tiny piece of the puzzle, it helps me to feel somewhat in control, even though I’m really not. I just like to have even a teeny bit of insight into what God is doing, and sometimes He lets me have it.

The best summary of writing I’ve ever heard comes from Ted Dekker’s book Showdown when the children in a very special kind of private school are told the four rules of writing.

1. Write to discover.
2. There is no greater discovery than love.
3. All love comes from the Creator.
4. Write what you will.

I remember the day that God told me He wanted me to be a writer. That was the only charge that I was given. No specifics were involved, no instruction manual was delivered supernaturally. Those four rules are the best that I’ve ever heard, but I’m trying to follow them backward. By writing what I want, I’ve realized that all love comes from God. Accepting that is something that I’ve struggled with my entire life, but I’ve also realized that there is no greater discovery than love. All types of love, the many forms that God has given to us to explore and give and receive. Ultimately, I write to discover that love, so I can fulfill the two commandments given to me by Jesus to the best of my ability.
